Check the rights behind 3D assets
before release or delivery
When in-house, outsourced, marketplace, free, scanned and AI-generated assets mix in one project, their copyright and license risks mix too. We organize provenance, permitted use and evidence, then identify actions needed before release or delivery.

FAQ
Common questions about 3D asset rights
01Can a purchased 3D asset always be used commercially?
Not always. Check commercial-use permission together with project, user or seat, source redistribution, and client-delivery restrictions.
02May Unity or Fab assets be shared with contractors or publishers?
It depends on the account, seat, entity and source-file access structure, so the license applicable to that purchase must be reviewed.
03Does a modified 3D model remain subject to the original license?
Modification generally does not erase the original license. The extent of changes, distribution method and inclusion of source material all matter.
04Does paying a contractor automatically transfer copyright?
Payment and rights transfer may be separate. The agreement should clearly address ownership, permitted use, modification, reuse and source-file delivery.
05Who owns rights in a building and its BIM file?
Rights in the building, drawings, BIM data and individual models may differ according to authorship, contracts and procurement structure.
06May manufacturer CAD files be used in promotional videos?
Permission to download does not necessarily cover promotion, modification or client delivery. Compare the provider terms with the intended use.
07Can drone, LiDAR or photogrammetry scans raise rights issues?
Beyond capture permission, building or product design, trademarks, personal data and security-sensitive information may need review.
08May AI-generated 3D models and textures be used commercially?
Review the service terms, rights in input materials, generation process and possible similarity to third-party works.
09What should be checked before delivering source 3D files?
Check inclusion of third-party sources, reuse and redistribution rights, contractor ownership and the client’s downstream use.
10What materials are needed for a 3D asset IP audit?
Start with the asset list, source URLs, receipts, license texts, outsourcing agreements, creation history and intended release or delivery scope.
